All about the color Roan
Updated: Feb 1, 2022
Lagotto come in a variety of colors including white, brown, roan and orange - and a variety of combinations of them. Roan is a unique color and not one that many people are familiar with. It changes over time!
Roan starts off in young newborn pups looking very much like white (Photo 1). As the undercoat develops, the white becomes flecked with brown tips (Photos 2 & 3)between the ages of 8 weeks and 20 weeks. This continues to develop until the coloration is fully mottled by age 6-8 months (Photos 4 & 5), appearing a light brown. As the dog matures the color begins to soften and fade to silver. By the time the dog is 2 - 3 years of age, the color takes on its ultimate color and will remain through the dogs adult life.
In the attached photos is Mocha. Her coloration is Roan with Brown. You can see the progression as she has grown and matured.
In the up coming litter, I imagine that we will see white, brown, and Roan with combinations of the same.
