Lagottos: Mom & pup playing in the grass

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

One of the joys we have at Northwest Lagotto is watching a mother Lagotto in her role as she raises her puppies. She goes from nursing and caring for basic bodily functions at birth, to addressing their emotional needs for love and affection by age 2 weeks when she starts to lick their heads and faces. As they continue to grow, she continues to care for them physically, providing the nourishment they depend on but her role changes as she starts to teach them to play and socialize with others. Here she is playing with a 10 week old puppy, inviting play, and teaching her how to do so without harming one another.

I love new puppies. These pups have just come into the world. We have 3 girls and 5 boys. Almost all, if not all will be brown roan in color - isn't it fascinating how they are born white? Stay tu
